Chapter Six

Trace watched Cheyenne’s eyes light with joy and a matching joy swelled in his chest. She tugged from his grasp to clasp his face in her hands. Then she went still and a myriad of expressions flitted over her features before she burst his little bubble of pleasure.

“You remembered!” she squealed happily. “Your memory returned, didn’t it? You remembered my full name and that has to be one of the smallest blocked memories.”

He sighed. So much for his surprise proposal. “Yeah. I fell to sleep after I left Bridleton, and when I woke up it was just all there again.”

“Everything? Even the emotion?” Her brows creased as her beautiful eyes searched his face. The genuine concern he saw there warmed him to the core. She never failed to amaze and excite him.

“I read somewhere that amnesia sufferers can get something called dissociative disorder. It sounded awful,” she explained.

“I remember standing here on the deck and kissing you breathless,” he said, sliding an arm around her waist and drawing her closer. Her hands flattened on his chest. He felt the gentle caress of her fingers through the fabric of his shirt. Her expression softened along with the contours of her body.

“I remember how it felt to finally have you in my arms.”

“Not the fall?”

He shook his head. “All I remember is how you set me on fire that morning,” he said, nudging his lower body against hers to demonstrate his point. “I knew if we ever gave in to the attraction, it would burn us alive.” He also remembered not wanting to put his heart at risk. Their powerful attraction was strong enough to forego vows of everlasting love.

Cheyenne tensed and her features tightened with worry. “Do you remember our conversation that morning?”

His eyes narrowed as he realized the source of her uneasiness. “About some preppie guy who passed out beside you in bed?” The reminder had him going taut with jealousy. He frowned and pulled her closer, feeling territorial.

She had the nerve to smile at him, and he felt the smile clear to his gut.

He relaxed a little, but then remembered their unprotected sex. “Which brings us back to the fact you might be pregnant now.”

When Cheyenne bit her lip, he momentarily lost track of the conversation. He wanted that lush mouth with a hunger unlike anything he’d ever known. It spiked a red-hot desire in him. He wanted to lose himself in her kisses, wanted to feel her mouth on every inch of his body. The need licked through his veins like wildfire.

“Did you know a woman can get pregnant even if...” The blush that heated her cheeks mesmerized him almost as much as her sweet mouth. “Even if he...”

He loved seeing his sassy, independent lover at a loss for words. Trace grinned and brushed a kiss over her pert nose. “Yes, I know. We’re in the breeding business at Bridleton. All it takes is a drop of semen. More drops are better, or course.”

Cheyenne slapped him on the chest with both hands.
